Mrs. Cynthia Alcivar

Clinical Psychologist

CDA Licensed
Cynthia Alcivar is a clinical psychologist with a strong academic background and extensive experience in mental health. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Clinical Psychology from Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ) in Ecuador and a Master’s in Affective Disorders from King’s College London (KCL) in the UK.

Throughout her career, Cynthia has worked with individuals facing a wide range of emotional challenges, helping them achieve balance and well-being through an integrative therapeutic approach. She has provided therapy in diverse settings, offering both in-person and online sessions to accommodate each patient’s unique needs while ensuring a safe and confidential space.

Her approach integrates three evidence-based therapeutic modalities:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Cynthia helps patients recognize and modify negative thought patterns and maladaptive behaviors. This method is particularly effective in treating anxiety, depression, and mood disorders.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): She utilizes DBT to support individuals dealing with intense emotions, including those diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). This approach focuses on emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and strengthening interpersonal relationships.
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Cynthia guides patients toward accepting their thoughts and emotions instead of resisting them. ACT promotes a values-based approach to life and is particularly effective for stress management, anxiety, and self-compassion.

By combining these therapeutic techniques, Cynthia equips her patients with practical skills to manage emotions and behaviors more effectively, helping them live in alignment with their personal values and goals.
